The Gathering
By Von Dekker

This airy, meditative illustration traces the quiet choreography of movement across a stylised landscape —  where hills, clouds, flora, and distant mountain peaks become waypoints in a gentle migration. Soft turquoise greens and pale greys create an atmosphere of stillness, while sweeping arcs in dark brown and vivid pink chart pathways that feel both intentional and ethereal, like currents of wind or memory guiding the journey.

Clusters of abstract flora, drifting birds, and bursts of star-like fireworks evoke the rhythms of travel, gathering, dispersal and return. The work reflects a whimsical and poetic take on illustration, when precision and play coexisted, and landscapes could be imagined as systems of connection rather than static places.

The Gathering offers a quiet mapping of movement—across land, through time, and between worlds — where direction becomes a form of storytelling.

Commissioned by Yen Magazine, an indie Sydney-based fashion/culture magazine, this piece was printed and distributed with the Magazine as an insert.
